The following Monday I got a call and an email from someone at school telling me my chicken pox titer number implied I was not immune. Now I know I had chicken pox when I was a kid and my doctor said the titers are inaccurate and that I was good to go. I should have been overly cautious and said give it to me anyway. Lesson learned. I was told I had to get the chicken pox vaccine by December 3rd or my registration would be pulled. Mrs. Martin (the one who called) suggested I go to the Warrick Health Department for a free shot. When I called them and said I needed it by the 3rd, she laughed. Apparently they are busy. So I called the nurse at my doctor's office. Carrie (or Kari) has been very helpful through all of this and she said she could get me in that afternoon but the shot is $160 if insurance doesn't cover it. Fortunately, it was covered. Keep in mind that this is right before Thanksgiving break. The school would be closed starting Tuesday at 5. I knew I could wait until the next week but it was driving me crazy to have this big thing undone. So that Tuesday afternoon I hurried in to Carrie, got the shot and the paperwork and hurried over to school. I made it by 2:30pm and it was a ghost town. The whole office was locked and deserted. They do have a drop box but I was scared to leave my original copy there. I made a copy of it in the library and dropped it in. When I got home, I emailed Mrs. Martin telling her what I did. I hope to hear back Monday. Hopefully that is all done.
Also, I checked Amazon again for my stethoscope. It was there! I ordered it right away and received it Wednesday! I've always wanted one of those. And did I mention Jason "surprised" me with a laptop? It's like he's in my brain. I finished my office area with a lamp and actually took my medical terminology final at my desk with my laptop. I like it. I can see myself working well there for the next two years. I will try to get that picture soon.

I was thinking the other day about how close you are to starting! So excited for you, Laura!! Can't wait to hear all about it...like we'll have time to talk. Maybe over that cup of coffee we've been dreaming about?
Hi, Laura! I'm Tara and I'm currently in my first semester of nursing courses at Ivy Tech in Evansville. ;-) I came across your blog and just wanted to say hey. Rest and relax while you can. ;-)
Hey, Tara. Thanks for your comment. I'm doing the opposite right now. I'm rushing around trying to complete a bunch of items on my "to do" list before the end of the year. I'll try to do nothing the first two weeks of January until I'm dreadfully bored and ready for school. Any other good advice for me?
Hey Laura! When you can get your books, go ahead and read Chapters 1-6 in Pharmacology - that's the first thing she goes over. Also, for lab, when you get your books, watch the videos and practice vitals since that's a huge component and you have to have that down before you can pass.
The main advice I can give, though, is enjoy your time while you have it. You will have little to none once school starts. Enjoy time with your family and kiddos, because its definitely a luxury. I'm looking forward to the winter break so I can spend more time with them. I was home with my son since his birth in 08 and it was hard for me not to be there. So, get all the cuddles in that you can!
Good luck!
That's very good to know. I have ordered my books already and I think they will be in later this week. I will definitely do that.
Hey, Laura. I was wondering what time you have Pharm. Do you have it in the morning or in the afternoon?
Tara,
I have Pharm on Thursday afternoons.
